About Us...
Jan Gubiotti and Beth Sugg are the founders of LEARN, a company dedicated to promoting the basic skills needed by today's students in order to compete and succeed in the twenty-first century. As colleagues for over 25 years in Fairport, NY, one of the leading school districts in the state, Jan and Beth have first-hand knowledge of the strategies that help students learn.
Together, they created the curriculum for Study Skills which was implemented and taught as part of Fairport's middle school program. In addition, they revised and adapted the curriculum which was used for professional development to expand Study Skills to all subject areas. Recognizing the need for parental involvement, Jan and Beth also created workshops that teach learning strategies to parents.
Jan and Beth took leading roles in implementing New York State English Language Arts standards into the middle school English curriculum. In addition to participating in curriculum revision, they developed workshops for paraprofessionals which teach the basic skills students need to meet state standards.

Jan holds a B.S. in Education and an M.A. in English and her teaching experience is diverse. She is the founder of a day care center and has worked with preschool children in a Montessori setting. Jan has taught elementary school as well as English and Study Skills at the middle and high school levels. In addition, she has acted as an ELA school district consultant.
Teaching Study Skills and recognizing its importance inspired Jan to develop workshops based on learning strategies. She has developed PowerPoint presentations specifically designed for teachers, parents and paraprofessionals which have been presented and well-received in various school districts in the Rochester area.

Beth holds a B.A. in English and an M.S. in Education. Her experience includes teaching English and Study Skills in middle school and methods classes at the college level. Beth has been a presenter at conferences, including the New York State Middle School Conference. She has been a consultant for school districts in the Rochester area, focusing on aligning curriculum with New York state standards and mandates.
Beth operates from the philosophy that educators should explore new ideas and concepts, but remain committed to teaching students basic skills.

Jan and Beth are passionate about LEARN because they want to participate in the process of preparing this generation of students for the challenges that await them.
